8 Ways to Find Your Inspiration

Sometimes it feels like inspiration just isn’t around when you need it the most. In fact, as soon as you sit down to work on your project, you can feel your energy draining away until nothing’s left except the feeling of staring at a blank screen or paper wondering what to do next or if you even want to do this in the first place. It can be frustrating, but you don’t have to give up! These eight ways will help you find inspiration again and maintain your motivation. So don’t get stuck, get inspired!

1 Be inspired by someone else

Watch a TED talk, read an inspirational biography, listen to a motivational podcast. Whatever your source of inspiration, there are plenty of places out there with great content that will get you inspired and motivate you towards success. Just remember that inspiration isn’t enough—you have to put in the hard work too! You need both inspiration and motivation if you want success.

2 Write down your plans

It is not easy to find inspiration. However, having a journal for goals and plans can be a great help. When your mind gets tired, you can look at what you have accomplished so far and give yourself a big pat on the back. This can help lift your spirits when times get tough. Also, as you write down plans and check them off as they are completed, you will feel fulfilled that you have achieved something great with each accomplishment. These small accomplishments keep our motivation up even in darker times.

3 Don’t lose track of what you want

If you lose track of what you’re striving for, then your motivation and inspiration will disappear. It’s best to stay centred on your overall goals instead of obsessing over minutiae. For example, if you’re trying to earn a promotion at work, focus on doing your job well and pushing yourself towards that end goal rather than chasing after little wins like getting out of finishing certain tasks ahead of schedule. Think big picture!

4 Ask yourself what motivates you

The fastest and easiest way to discover your muse is by asking yourself what motivates you. Take a moment and reflect on that special something that gives you goosebumps. Why do you love it? What purpose does it serve in your life? The answers can provide valuable insight for how to achieve success. It’s possible, however, that inspiration is not rooted in just one area of your life. There are likely many sources of motivation waiting for you... all you have to do is find them!

5 Know that you can make it happen

Remember that it’s all about making it happen. You’re in control of your own life, and you can make anything happen if you want it bad enough. The key is persistence, so keep doing what you enjoy, working hard every day, and trusting that success will come sooner or later. You’ll find inspiration when you get through a particularly challenging stretch of work or school.

6 Watch how other people do it

Watching other people go about their day can be a great way to inspire you. It’s also important, however, not to only watch and learn from those who are further along in their careers or lives than you—it can feel like comparing apples and oranges. Learn as much as you can from everyone around you. All of your experiences are valuable assets for future success.

7 Set goals for yourself

It’s easier to create goals for yourself when you’re working towards something. But, let’s say you’re stuck in a creative rut and just can’t find anything that inspires you; how do you break through it? The key is finding your inspiration—and we suggest eight ways that might help. Whether you need a change of scenery or new material, try one (or all) of these tips out. You never know what might spark an idea!

8 Make a change in your life now!

When you go through periods where you feel like you’re not really inspired, sometimes it can help to shake things up. Take a different route to work; do something for your health (or someone else’s) that you’ve never done before; take some time out to think about what gives you joy in life, and how you might incorporate more of it into your daily routine. Sometimes we all need a reminder that there is more to life than what we have come accustomed to.
